12:37 am - Bit of Icon help OK so I'm digging through the Icon .DAT and I think I'm going to re-create the entire thing from scratch. But there's a lot of things that I'd like to have clarified. This is gonna be really low-level data organization stuff, so if you don't know much about computers don't even try reading this:

02:11 am - COR Dice - which ones are the strongest? IMO, COR is SE's attempt to make people play a support job (virtually identical to BRD) by using a pirate theme and cool looking gear. However, I'm 95% Certain that COR will follow BRD in the sense that there are only a smaaaaaall handful of "Rolls" which will actually get used. Not to mention the rediculously small percentage of players who will actually want to level the job.
In the case of BRD, this can be summarized into Minuet, Ballad, Madrigal, March. Most other buff songs are rarely used or only used in special situations.
So what is the COR equivalent? Since a COR can only give 2 effects to the party at once, which ones will they be? Obviously, this also depends on how the abilitys work. If they give the buffs to all party members (regardless of position), this could be tough deciding between Refresh on the melees or Double Attack on the mages. However, if it works like BRD and that you can give different party members different Roll combos, I think it'll end up something like this:
Mages - Evokers Roll (Refresh) + Job-Specific Buff (MAB for BLMs, hMP for WHM/SMN, MAcc for RDM) Melees - Fighters Roll (Double Attack) + Rogue/Chaos/Hunters Roll (Crit / Attack / Acc). Maybe even the Store TP move could be useful. Tanks - Evokers Roll (Refresh) for PLD, Ninja Roll (Evasion Up), Not much else. Chances are they'll just get the same stuff as the melees.
There is also the EXP Bonus which ideally you give to everyone before the mob dies.
Additionally, COR Rolls cannot be stacked or "renewed" like BRD songs can. This provides an additional element of difficulty in playing the job.
Finally, COR Rolls are variable in potency, and have a chance of "Busting" if you try to improve the outcome of the first roll.
So, to compare the 2 jobs:
BRD = Songs overwrite, choice of songs is incredibly brainless, easy to keep the proper songs up on everyone
COR = Rolls don't overwrite, they have variable strength, you can "Bust" and lose the buff completely, the choice of Rolls is more difficult than choosing songs, making it much more difficult to keep the right buffs on the right people all the time.
I think that COR is just going to be another BRD flop job that very few people play, and although a welcome addition to any party they will simply be too rare to use consistantly during EXP or HNMs.

02:28 am - New Icon Package Before I forget, you can get an updated Icon Swap DAT here:
Edit: new Version http://faranim.livejournal.com/108276.html
My version is just a touched up version from SkyAngel below: http://lazureus.livejournal.com/
I will be going through the DAT over the next few days and cleaning it up (and make it compatible with the JP Client as well), but it should be perfectly functional for most users as it is now.

01:38 pm - /random I wonder if there's an Automaton Attachment that lets it cast Refresh.
Also, I wonder if the Automaton can run out of MP, and if so how do you make it heal? Or perhaps the Automaton casts spells out of the PUPs MP pool similar to summoner blood pacts. Also, can a PUP rest while their Automaton is fighting?
So many questions.... but no expansion yet.
